The POTUS may not be an exemplar of perfect jump-shooting form. But he’s still cool.

Note to self: do not write off half of my Nike endorsed bball wear for 2012 taxes. Risky.

Political biases aside, we should all honor this president as the Hoops Commander in Chief. Love it.
I could do Chinese. Or Indian. Yeah, definitely Indian.

Letter of the week

Mr. President,
You are using too much “palm” when shooting the basketball. Use your fingertips for more control of spin and accuracy.
In reference to this, we’re guessing. Filing it under “advice.”
He does have a point, you know.

Tonight, I am immensely proud of my city for the warm welcome Dayton extended to President Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron.
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and UD Arena played host to a visit by the two world leaders as Mr. Obama treated Mr. Cameron to his first college basketball game. They first met with Airmen assembled at WPAFB, and then twenty University of Dayton students were selected to sit in the same section with the heads of state at the contest between Western Kentucky and Mississippi Valley State. If the local news coverage is any indication, there were plenty of smiles to go around.
The saying goes that regardless of our political affiliations, we should respect the office. I’ve seen Air Force One depart my hometown twice now, the first time carrying President George W. Bush. No matter who holds the POTUS title, there’s a tremendous sense of both pride and agony as that special jet roars upon takeoff. I think to myself, “The leader of the free world is on that plane.” Today, those senses were heightened as Britain’s top man became the first foreign leader to join Mr. Obama for a flight.
Although the city proper leans left, the Miami Valley surrounding it is fiercely conservative. This is, after all, the home constituency of Speaker of the House John Boehner. Yet the Battleground State of Ohio put aside its fractured voting habits today, and the visit went without incident.
Daytonians who had the opportunity to meet our honored guests all commented on how laid back, relaxed, and jovial both men seemed. Was it the power of sports? The sunny, springtime weather? The hot dogs? Whatever set the stage, I was happy to see my very divided community set aside points of contention, focusing instead on good-natured handshakes and hugs.
There is a time and place for seeking changes to policy. Today wasn’t about that. It was about two guys — by all accounts friends — attending a basketball game together. Bravo, Dayton.

Obama: Jeremy is —
BS: Jeremy Lin.
Obama: — doing good. And I knew about Jeremy before you did, or everybody else did, because Arne Duncan, my Secretary of Education, was captain of the Harvard team. And so way back when, Arne and I were playing and he said, I’m telling you, we’ve got this terrific guard named Jeremy Lin at Harvard. And then one of my best friends, his son is a freshman at Harvard, and so when he went for a recruiting trip he saw Lin in action. So I’ve been on the Jeremy Lin bandwagon for a while.

Whether you agree with his politics or not (and please, refrain from letting me know either way) Barack Obama will always be the Hoops President.
