Southern Illinois Salukis offer job to Bruce Weber, source says - ESPN Chicago
“Weber coached at SIU from 1998 to 2003, where he reached two NCAA tournaments and went 103-56. It was Weber’s first head coaching position after spending 18 seasons as a Purdue assistant coach.
Southern Illinois’ position opened March 2 when Chris Lowery was fired after eight seasons. The Salukis went to the Sweet 16 under Lowery in 2007, but he failed to reach the NCAA tournament again. Lowery was a former assistant to Weber at Illinois.
If Weber doesn’t accept the job, Southern Illinois’ other top candidates all have head coaching experience, according to a source.
SIU is high on Vanderbilt assistant Dan Muller and Kansas assistant and former Missouri State coach Barry Hinson. Marquette assistant Tony Benford and Gonzaga assistant Ray Giacoletti also interviewed.”

Illini Coach Bruce Weber’s Postgame Presser
A lot of disappointment and pent-up frustration got vented at Weber’s press conference last night. It’s painful to listen to but Weber admits to playing “not to lose” for the past three years instead of trying to build a team based on toughness. He cops to trying to please too many people—and that probably includes alumni and trustees who pushed him to recruit marquee high school players who did not necessarily fit into his system.
I hope he is coaching at a different program next year—one where he will have players who listen to him. -

Bruce Weber: DNP-Achilles.
“The Illini have added another name to their injury list.
Bruce Weber.
The Illinois coach said he is experiencing an Achilles “flare up” in his right foot. He wore a walking boot as the team held its first practice in a ballroom at the spectacular Moon Palace Resort outside Cancun.
Weber said he won’t wear the walking boot when Illinois (3-0) meets Richmond (2-1) in a semifinal of the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday (8:30 p.m., CBS College Sports).”
