“Guerin averaged 19.6 points per game in his career at Iona for a total of 1,375 career points. He was then drafted by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 1956 NBA Draft and went on to play 13 years in the NBA. He was a six-time all-star and became the first New York Knick to score 2,000 points in a season.
Over the course of his career, he averaged 20.1 points per game and amassed 4,278 rebounds and 4,211 assists. He also coached at the NBA level, compiling an overall record of 327-291 and winning the NBA’s Coach of the Year award in 1968.”

Iona's opponents are helping Gaels look good.
“There are two blemishes on Iona’s record right now. The first was in the Gaels’ opening game of the season on a last-second shot by the brilliant Robbie Hummel, which gave Purdue a 91-90 win. The second though was a little more worrisome. Iona fell 82-63 to Marshall in Huntington, W.V. after getting pounded on the boards. At the time that loss looked like it might seriously hinder any chance the Gaels had at an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, but as the season gone on it has begun to look better and better.”

The third time proved to be the charm for the Gaels (3-1).
The second overtime became Machado’s personal playground as he scored nine of Iona’s 11 points, including four straight free throws in the final 17.8 seconds as the Gaels finally outlasted the Hawks.
Machado finished with his fourth double-double in as many games as he also posted 10 assists.
“He’s the next Jason Kidd,” Glover said.”
