“Cleaves was willing to forego his caution for one night as he helped open a new Flint, Michigan eatery known as Freakin’ Unbelieveable Burgers. In a state as hard-hit by economic hardship as Michigan, a new employer is great news. For Cleaves, that made it easier to become involved, as did the company’s decision to work with the Flint Boys and Girls Club, a charity close to Cleaves’ heart.
As for the new restaurant’s name, there’s a bit of a story behind that:”

“To my mind, Randle is the key. The highly-rated Illinois native bypassed nearby programs to bring his brainy game to Palo Alto, and he’s proven quite capable of running the point and scoring at a decent clip. With another year under his belt, and a strong if possibly underrated supporting cast, don’t be surprised to see Stanford back in the Big Dance this season.”

“The Golden Eagles are pretty loaded in the backcourt for 2012-13, with a rotation that looks something like this: Lockett, Junior Cadougan, Vander Blue, Todd Mayo and Derrick Williams. The big man rotation may be a bit thin — literally and figuratively — without the broad-shouldered Crowder patrolling the paint. Regardless, according to a roundtable hosted by the Marquette blog Paint Touches, some who write about the team are really looking forward to 6’4″ Paris Junior College transfer T.J. Taylor joining the guard platoon.”

“Carson’s appreciation for the basketball culture at ASU doesn’t rest entirely upon the past. He praised the “old-man game” of teammate Evan Gordon, comparing him to Joe Dumars in the process, and described his head coach as “intelligent, spunky and funny”. The 5’10″ guard predicted he’d throw down a windmill dunk in a game, as well.”

“Obviously, the question here is “who is this He we’re talking about?” In this case (and here comes the basketball, I know you were wondering), He is Adam Smith. Not Adam Smith the revolutionary economic thinker, but Adam Smith the inconsistent but promising college basketball player.”

College Mascot Draws Boos, Laughs - Entertainment - The Atlantic Wire
My close personal friend Rob weighs in on W&M’s new mascot via The Atlantic:
“The Harry Potter-Friendly History W&M alum blogger Rob muses, “Yes, it has an eagle’s head and a lion’s body, symbolizing the College’s historical debt to both the United States and Great Britain. And sure, it’ll play well with the Harry Potter demo. But how do we explain this to our children? How do I look into my daughter’s perplexed eyes and answer her question: ‘Why does it have a naked man’s legs and a tail?’ Why, indeed, sweetheart?”

Are you pining for college basketball? Enjoy an interstate rivalry on the grandest scale? Perhaps you’re a fan of a father/son coaching legacy? If you answered yes (or no) to any of the above then this short doc is for you. The Battle on Broadway focuses on the lead up to this past season’s exhibition game between University of Kentucky and Transylvania University. Their last game was 100 years ago making this one of the oldest rivalries in college basketball.
Milkman Todd was the editor for this piece and it was produced by JuddFilms. Enjoy.
