Kansas Jayhawks' Tyshawn Taylor out 3 weeks with torn meniscus, sprained MCL - ESPN
I’ve been tough on Tyshawn Taylor, but for this to happen in a game in which he dished out 13 assists is cruel, and will hurt Kansas. Kudos to Tyshawn for gutting out the pain in a big win for his team.
“LAWRENCE, Kan. — No. 13 Kansas will be without starting guard Tyshawn Taylor for about three weeks after he tore the meniscus and sprained the MCL in his right knee.
Jayhawks coach Bill Self disclosed the injury after their 78-67 win over second-ranked Ohio State on Saturday. Taylor played despite the injury, which he sustained in practice early in the week, and finished with nine points and a career-high 13 assists in 35 minutes.”

Amazing story about Marquette’s Chris Otule:
“When Otule was born, one of his eyes had not fully developed and he was given an artificial eye. He replaces the eye every time he grows out of it, which he says last occurred two years ago.
Despite his claims that his condition only affects him on close passes, it’s still an extraordinary feat that he is playing high-major Division I basketball with half of his vision gone. It’s tough to play in the Big East with two eyes.”

Utah State dealt a significant blow - College Basketball Nation Blog - ESPN
Diamond Say:
“Utah State starting forward Brady Jardine, the team’s top rebounder, could miss the rest of the season with a foot injury, coach Stew Morrill said Monday. Jardine has missed four games since suffering the injury Nov. 19 against Southern Utah.
Losing Jardine for an extended period of time would provide yet another obstacle for the perennial WAC champions to overcome. The senior was one of only four returning players and averaged 7.7 points and 7.7 rebounds after moving into the starting lineup this season. Without him, the Aggies have lost three of their last four games, losing to Texas A&M-CC before dropping consecutive games to Denver and Pacific.” -
I hate to see injuries, but I love to see them handled with humor. Minnesota’s Trevor Mbakwe gets this week’s (fictional, non-NCAA punishable) prize.

Louisville players are wearing helmets in practice. Seems wise, given the injury rate for Pitino’s boys. h/t Card Chronicle

Trevor Mbakwe of Minnesota Golden Gophers out for season with knee tear - ESPN
Big loss for the Gophers. Mbakwe was a warrior inside.
“Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe, last season’s rebounding leader in the Big Ten, will miss the rest of the 2011-12 season with a torn ACL, the school confirmed Monday.
Mbakwe suffered the injury in the second half of Minnesota’s 86-70 loss to Dayton in the Old Spice Classic title game in Orlando on Sunday. The senior forward landed awkwardly on a routine defensive play and fell to the floor while grabbing his right knee.
He was emotional on the bench, where he sat briefly with his teammates before going back to the locker room on crutches.”

Cancun: Weber joins wounded Illini | IlliniHQ.com
Bruce Weber: DNP-Achilles.
“The Illini have added another name to their injury list.
Bruce Weber.
The Illinois coach said he is experiencing an Achilles “flare up” in his right foot. He wore a walking boot as the team held its first practice in a ballroom at the spectacular Moon Palace Resort outside Cancun.
Weber said he won’t wear the walking boot when Illinois (3-0) meets Richmond (2-1) in a semifinal of the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday (8:30 p.m., CBS College Sports).”
